In a shock announcement on Facebook, Appledore Social Club announced on 23 July that they are to close. This is the full text of their post:
It is with regret that we have decided to close the club until further notice. An EGM of the membership will be called asap in order to establish if anyone wants to take the club forward. Updates will follow regarding dates on EGM.
No further information is available at the moment. When it is, this page will be updated. Most importantly, there is not yet a date for the extraordinary general meeting. There have been rumours of financial problems but at this stage it is pure speculation as to the real reason for the sudden closure.
There will be a lot of interest from the community in keeping the social club running as a going concern, and making it a successful hub for music in Appledore. Inspiration can be taken from the Champ, which entered into new ownership last year and has become a great success, with well-attended gigs on most evenings under Sam’s management.
