The Burton Art Gallery was established in 1951 by a Bideford-based businessman named Thomas Burton. It is a wonderful place for everyone and makes the town of Bideford and the surrounding area – including Appledore – proud.
There are exhibitions of local and world-renowned artists held throughout the year. Most exhibitions are free. There is a fine café which opens onto Victoria Park, adjacent to the art gallery. The gift shop sells arty greeting cards, art books and other gifts. It also has a permanent exhibition of locally-made jewellery and ceramics, many of which are for sale.
On Saturday afternoons from July to the end of September, between 2:30 and 4pm, there is music outside the café, weather permitting.
