Domingo Caramelo Trio

The Champ hosts a “Sunday Nice” session on the afternoon of the fourth Sunday every month. Domingo Caramelo kicked off these sessions in June 2023 and they’re back. Despite being a quartet they bill themselves as “Domingo Caramelo Trio” which is one of many enigmas about this wonderful jazz band. Domingo Caramelo consists of Dayle on bass, Rob Norris on keys, Jon Gillies on sax and Jim Blofeld on drums. Their repertoire includes jazz standards such asMisty, Autumn Leaves and Over the Rainbow

The band name, which means Sunday sweet in Spanish, combined with a picture of John Thomson in his Louis “Niiiice” Balfour guise on the poster, hints at an irreverent approach but that should not be mistaken for a lack of finesse. These guys are superb musicians. Enjoy!
