MASTER SAXOPHONIST AT THE BEAVER
Blistering, award-winning saxophonist Simon Spillett will perform a gig at North Devon Jazz Club at The Beaver, Appledore on 26 May.
Dubbed ‘extraordinarily talented’ by Jazzwise Magazine, Spillett displays (in the words of Jazz UK magazine) an ‘instrumental facility and creative fecundity’ in his playing, while Observer jazz critic Dave Gelly wrote ‘ Those of us who have caught him …have been left blinking in disbelief. It’s not only his mastery of the tenor saxophone …but the ‘absolute conviction of his playing that is so impressive.’
Performing in a post-bop style influenced by his hero, the late, great UK saxophonist Tubby Hayes, Simon Spillett will be joined for the gig by a trio led by another award-winner, the brilliant pianist Craig Milverton.
