Sam Brayshaw plays Kurt Weill – North Devon Jazz Club
February 17 at 8:30 pm
Free
BEYOND MACK THE KNIFE
The German-American composer Kurt Weill is famous for his song Mack the Knife but it is his lesser-known works, straddling the worlds of jazz, classical music, musical theatre and opera, which the prize-winning alto saxophonist Sam Braysher will interpret with his trio at North Devon Jazz Club in The Beaver on 17th February.
Sam’s playing has been described as “delightful and surprising” by Dave Gelly in the Observer, while his recent trio album was praised in Jazzwise as “a triumph of intelligence and sentiment”. Jazz Journal commented that he makes ‘each solo an excursion of great interest, never overloading sentiment or false emotion but always staying true to the song.’
Joining Sam will be ultra-swinging drummer Steve Brown and award-winning double bassist Andrew Robb.
The gig is at 8:30pm and is hosted by the North Devon Jazz Club. Keep up the good work NDJC. There is no entrance fee, however a collection is taken for the band.
