DESCRIPTION:GRIPPING JAZZ AT THE BEAVER \nAward-winning saxophonist Alex Clarke joins up-and-coming pianist Eddie Gripper with his trio at North Devon Jazz in The Beaver on 3 November. \nAlex was winner at the age of twenty of the Rising Star category in the British Jazz Awards and has since pursued a career working with top musicians\, with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra\, Simon Spillett’s Big Band and the Ronnie Scott Jazz Orchestra as well as touring with her own quartet. \nPianist Eddie Gripper has received glowing reviews for his playing and compositions. He came to prominence with his superb album Home which was praised for its thoughtful and melodic compositions. To quote the Jazzwise review ‘In its maturity of  approach and deftness of execution Home is a significant achievement by any standards.’ \nThe gig starts at 8:30pm and is hosted by the North Devon Jazz Club. SUMMARY:Howl Quartet - presented by North Devon Jazz Club
DESCRIPTION:Taking its name and inspiration from an Alan Ginsberg poem entitled Howl\, the Howl Quartet will play  a gig at North Devon Jazz Club in The Beaver Appledore on 10th November. \nFormed in 2017 and led by the saxophonists Harry Brunt and Dan Smith the quartet emphasises storytelling through melodic composition and improvisation. Reviewing the band’s album Airglow UK Vibe called it a “diverse\, dynamic and richly rewarding listen’ and stated that ‘Airglow is a great example of how jazz in the 21st century is well and truly alive and kicking” while Jazzwise wrote “Often beguiling…an assured statement of identity from a band that has very much found its feet.”

DESCRIPTION:TOP-FLIGHT JAZZ TRUMPETER AT THE BEAVER \nTop-flight trumpeter Bruce Adams is special guest at North Devon Jazz Club in The Beaver\, Appledore on 24 November. He will join superb saxophonist Martin Dale and quartet to perform an evening of fiery bop-based jazz. \nBorn in Glasgow Bruce Adams is a veteran of the UK jazz scene. Given a trumpet at 11 years he was performing his first gig within a few months. There followed a diverse career\, ranging from a winning appearance on Opportunity Knocks\, a spell in Canada\, work on the QE2 and gigs with big bands which led to him winning the best soloist prize in the BBC Big Band Competition. \nBruce has played all over the world with such jazz greats as Benny Carter\, Buddy Tate and Bob Wilbur and he has won the UK Top Trumpet prize three times. Writing in The Daily Telegraph critic Martin Gayford commented that “Adams performs with boppy zip and\, when appropriate\, a nice\, dirty low down feeling”. \nThe gig starts at 8:30pm and is hosted by the North Devon Jazz Club. Support from Quirk.  \nAfter experiencing the band’s notoriously energetic live performances at Glastonbury Festival\, Mark Radcliffe declared them as one of his “Highlights of the Festival” on BBC TV coverage and subsequently invited them to play a session on his BBC Radio 2 Folk Show. The band has also performed a live session with Whispering Bob Harris on Radio 2. \nThe band released a new album\, Information Camouflage\, in the Autumn of 2024. Recorded at Propagation House Studios in Cornwall\, the album was wholly funded by a successful crowdfunding campaign on their website. It contains 11 brand-new songs written over the last 2 years\, many of which have been road-tested live and enthusiastically received by audiences up and down the country. \nWith their quirky and original approach to music\, and their passion\, intensity\, and sheer joy of life\, 3 Daft Monkeys have gained themselves a large and loyal cult following. Their music is hard to pigeonhole\, mixing and crossing many musical genres from Celtic\, Klezmer\, Gypsy\, Balkan\, Latin\, Ska\, Dub Reggae\, Indie\, Rock\, and even a hint of Shostakovich. 3 Daft Monkeys have always maintained an independent and cottage-industry approach to their musical career\, and have gained a huge following whilst plowing their own furrow through the music business\, gaining momentum through their live performances and intensive European touring schedule. \nWith a 4-piece line-up\, the band weaves enchanting melodies with catchy choruses\, virtuoso vibrant fiddle\, rhythmic 12-string guitar\, 6-string bass\, bespoke hand-percussion and 4-part vocal harmonies.
