DESCRIPTION:MASTER SAXOPHONIST AT THE BEAVER \nBlistering\, award-winning saxophonist Simon Spillett will perform a gig at  North Devon Jazz Club at The Beaver\, Appledore on 26 May. \nDubbed ‘extraordinarily talented’ by Jazzwise Magazine\, Spillett  displays (in the words of Jazz UK magazine) an ‘instrumental facility and creative fecundity’ in his playing\, while Observer jazz critic Dave Gelly wrote ‘ Those of us who have caught him …have been left blinking in disbelief. It’s not only his mastery of the tenor saxophone  …but the ‘absolute conviction of his playing that is so impressive.’ \nPerforming in a post-bop style influenced by his hero\, the late\, great UK saxophonist Tubby Hayes\, Simon Spillett will be joined for the gig by a trio led by another award-winner\, the brilliant pianist Craig Milverton. \nThe gig starts at 8:30pm and is hosted by the North Devon Jazz Club. DESCRIPTION:STAR TRIO AT THE BEAVER \nAward-winning double bass player Alec Dankworth\,  the son of  the late Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine\, will  join vibraphonist Roger Beaujolais and guitarist Neil Burns to perform a gig on 9th June at  North Devon Jazz Club in The Beaver\, Appledore. \n As one of the UK’s leading bassists Alec has had an impressive career including  stints in the Dave Brubeck Quartet\, with Van Morrison  and with the notorious Ginger Baker of “Cream” fame\, among many other collaborations with many of the world’s greatest jazz musicians. He is also a prolific composer and bandleader in his own right. \nVibes player Roger Beaujolais is known for his long career as a jazz musician\, based in London and working internationally. Along with a string of high profile session work Roger has performed and recorded with many big names\, including Robert Plant\, Neneh Cherry\, Morrissey\, Paul Weller\, Roni Size\, Kirsty MacColl\, and Tony Allen as well as releasing many albums under his own leadership. \nScottish Guitarist Neil Burns has been immersed in the south west jazz scene for many years and has accompanied many top players on tours in the region. His a funky\, bluesy\, bebop style  is steeped in the jazz guitar tradition\, heavily influenced by the great Grant Green. \nThe gig starts at 8:30pm and is hosted by the North Devon Jazz Club. DESCRIPTION:Jim Crawford and Sophie Smiles will be serving up a musical gumbo of blues\, Louisiana funk and jazz.  \nSophie Smiles is a talented pianist and bassist who lives in Westward Ho! She learnt to play from listening to the great New Orleans piano master Dr John and often gigs around Appledore. She plays honky tonk and Southern funk and blues\, always looking like she loves to play more than anything else. Her warmth and enthusiasm is catching. \nJim Crawford is one of the best-known musicians in the Appledore area. Originally from Lancashire\, he now resides in the heart of Appledore. Despite his great skill on the guitar\, he is a humble man who loves fishing with his dog for company. He has toured much of Europe and the States captivating audiences with his intimate folk/blues style.
