DESCRIPTION:JAZZ GUITAR MAESTRO RETURNS TO THE BEAVER  \nSwiss jazz guitar maestro Nicolas Meier pays another visit to North Devon Jazz Club at The Beaver\, Appledore on 5 October with his band the Nicolas Meier World Group.  \nA firm favourite with the Club’s regulars Nicolas will be including pieces from his latest album\, Elysian Drift\, drawing on influences ranging from Turkish and Middle Eastern styles to tango\, flamenco\, blues …and more.\nTo quote Jazzwise Magazine ‘The choir of guitars he employs lend him an almost unique voice\, especially as he favours fretless instruments that allow him to explore micro- tones\, blends\, slurs and sudden runs that dazzle and delight.’  \nJoining Nicolas will be Alex Hutton on keyboard and Demi Garcia Sabat on percussion.  \nMeier has recorded and played with Jeff Beck and Bill Bruford amongst many others\, and has released several albums under his own name. There is no entrance fee\, however a collection is taken for the band.

SUMMARY:Domingo Caramelo
DESCRIPTION:The Champ hosts a “Sunday Nice” session on the afternoon of the fourth Sunday every month. Domingo Caramelo kicked off these sessions in June 2023 and they’re back. Despite being a quartet they bill themselves as “Domingo Caramelo Trio” which is one of many enigmas about this wonderful jazz band. Domingo Caramelo consists of Dayle on bass\, Rob Norris on keys\, Jon Gillies on sax and Jim Blofeld on drums. Their repertoire includes jazz standards such asMisty\, Autumn Leaves and Over the Rainbow \nThe band name\, which means Sunday sweet in Spanish\, combined with a picture of John Thomson in his Louis “Niiiice” Balfour guise on the poster\, hints at an irreverent approach but that should not be mistaken for a lack of finesse. These guys are superb musicians.  Enjoy! \nThis is an Appledore Music Festival pre-festival gig.
