Praised by Downbeat Magazine for his ‘masterful technique and exquisite touch’ Lorne is a living legend having toured and recorded with such greats as Oscar Peterson\, Joey DeFrancesco and Chet Baker.  \nNigel Price\, who was voted top guitarist in the 2016 British Jazz Awards\, always delights audiences with his blend of flowing bebop lines\, deep blues sensibility and mastery of chording. To quote The Observer he is ‘probably one of the most dynamic and  gifted guitarists on the British jazz scene.’   \nNigel will also be joined by virtuoso double bass player Ashley John Long\, a musician rated by The Jazzmann as ’one of the most singularly impressive double bassist in the UK\, a supremely imaginative player and a phenomenal technician.’  Completing the ensemble will be Winston Clifford who is considered to be one of the best drummers in this country.  \nThis concert is presented by the North Devon Jazz Club. DESCRIPTION:The joyful sounds of South African township jazz can be heard at North Devon Jazz Club in The Beaver\, Appledore on Monday 8th January when South African-born pianist Philip Clouts brings his Sunsplash Quartet to play the gig.  \nThe band will perform a programme which features music from the greats of South Africa including Abdullah Ibrahim’s breakthrough hit ‘Mannenberg’\, Miriam Makeba’s ‘Click Song’ and tunes by Dudu Pukwana and Hugh Masakela. More information can be found at the Sunsplash website.  \nPhilip Clouts was born in Cape Town and has loved South African jazz from childhood. The music has influenced his own playing and composing in worldbeat jazz group Zubop and more recently in the Philip Clouts Quartet. To quote critic Alyn Shipton in Gramophone Magazine\, the band  ‘hits an authentic groove and holds it\, building successfully as Hugh Masakela or Abdullah Ibrahim’s bands do\, underpinned with a rhythmic firmness and drive that carries everything forward with zest.’  \nThe quartet will be completed by saxophonist Neil Maya\, bass player Marcus Vergette and drummer Coach York.  \nThis concert is presented by the North Devon Jazz Club.
