It is wholehearted but at the same time restrained. DESCRIPTION:The legendary pianist Bill Evans was groundbreaking in his contribution to the development of jazz. On 13 June pianist John Horler will be at North Devon Jazz Club at The Beaver\, Appledore with drummer Ronnie Jones and bassist Ron Phelan to pay homage to the great man and the other wonderful musicians (Scott La Faro and Paul Motion) in Bill Evans’ classic trio.\nRated by The Observer as ‘one of the finest jazz pianists that Britain has ever produced’ John Horler was accompanist for Dame Cleo Laine for twenty years. He is also a former member of Sir John Dankworth’s bands and has performed with many of the greats of modern jazz including Art Farmer\, Chet Baker\, Zoot Sims\, Maynard Ferguson\, Tony Coe\, Ronnie Ross\, Pete King\, Kenny Wheeler and Tommy Whittle. \nThe music and musicianship of Bill Evans has left an indelible impression on John and his career\, even inspiring him to become a jazz musician. Talking about Bill Evans John says he embraced “the music of European composers Debussy\, Ravel and even Brahms\, which he welded into his own very special jazz language…. DESCRIPTION:Another return visit by this hugely popular band which draws on influences ranging from Turkish and Middle Eastern styles to tango\, flamenco\, blues …and more. To quote Jazzwise Magazine about Nicolas Meier ‘The choir of guitars he employs lend him an almost unique voice\, especially as he favours fretless instruments that allow him to explore micro- tones\, blends\, slurs and sudden runs that dazzle and delight.’ Joining Nicolas on the front line will be violinist Richard Jones whose playing has been described as ‘spine tingling’ by The Guardian. Completing the ensemble will be top bass guitarist Kevin Glasgow and dynamic percussionist Demi Garcia.  \nThe gig is hosted by the North Devon Jazz Club. Keep up the good work NDJC.

He has also toured as a stand-up comedian and singer in the UK and abroad.
